With Senior prom coming up and Junior prom occurring last weekend, March 21st, there appears to be a wide set of social exceptions high school students attending prom feel they must follow. A few examples of this would be having a long dress, bringing a date, going to an after party, and the “required” preparation of nails, hair, and attire. This can cause the students and guests to feel an immense amount of social pressure and have an expectation of experiencing a good time because they have followed the supposed social rules. When students were asked how they felt about prom and the underlying expectations of it, they said they felt stressed and overwhelmed with the amount of planning it takes to make one day perfect. With all of the pressure and stress this can make prom feel like a chore instead of one of the best nights a high school student can experience. With that being said here are some ideas that might be helpful.
- Remember that when prom is taking place, summer is right around the corner and school is almost over so the stress from school is also almost over!
- Have a good time! If things don’t work out the way you expected them to, see it as a learning experience rather than letting it ruin your night.
- Lower your expectations of a perfect night and just remember to have fun!
Hopefully these tips were useful and can make your prom a very special night!
