KMEA recently took place here at Ballard. A lot of people don’t seem to know, what exactly is KMEA?
KMEA is a competition featuring orchestra, band, and choir classes from almost every school in JCPS, middle school to highschool. Typically, it lasts about two to four days. Each school performs before three judges, and are graded on a scale of one to four. One being distinguished, four being novice.
This year, it was held here at Ballard and schools around JCPS visited the FAC to perform. In an interview with sophomore Deisa Bhattarai, an orchestra student, she said that “KMEA is a special program that helped me grow with my instrument. I loved KMEA, it was a fun, happy musical time that helped us become better musicans.” KMEA lasted from March 3rd to March 4th, with Ballard earning a one (distinguished) in orchestra.
