Thurby is this special event that happens every Derby week, that happens the Thusday before oaks and the derby at Churchill downs, where it marks down the 152nd of Kentucky derby week. Thurby day hosts parties and events of 12 races, live music, fashion outfits with big hats, and etc. Thurby is also significantly cheaper to attend the Kentucky Oaks or Kentucky Derby where derby and oaks are about $500 and The Thurby is around $50 to $140. This week of Thurby borught huge crowds to Churchills down to see the races and to bet on the horses and have a theme called “cool Kentucky” where it is the great bourbon raffle that is in partnership with the Frazier Kentucky History Museum. Thurby this year starts on April 30, 2026 and that gates open at 10:30 am and the first race starts at 12:45pm.
