Friday night’s basketball game between Ballard and CAL was a showdown on the court and in the stands. Students from both schools showed up to support their teams, but Ballard’s crowd brought a whole new level of energy that couldn’t be matched.
On the Ballard side, the atmosphere was tense. Students were cheering and yelling nonstop. The cheer team had so much energy, leading the students and crowd with energetic routines, flips, and chants every time Ballard scored. Everyone on the Ballard side was standing and hyping-up the basketball team, making it clear they were there to support their school.
The CAL section, while supportive, wasn’t as loud or active as Ballard’s. They cheered and yelled throughout the game, but their energy wasn’t quite as intense. Most of CAL’s crowd stayed seated, and their cheerleaders didn’t do as much compared to the Ballard’s cheer team.
I interviewed about twenty-five people from both Ballard and CAL, coaches from both sides, cheerleaders, and people from the student sections. We asked who they think would win the Ballard VS Cal basketball game, and every single one of them said that they think Ballard would win the game. When asked who they were there to support, the cheerleaders from CAL said that “at this point we’re cheering for Ballard”.
The halftime show was another highlight of the night. Ballard’s dance team performed an amazing dance, and harmonized moves flawlessly, further showcasing the school’s spirit and commitment to excellence.
Even though Ballard’s side clearly brought more energy, it was great to see students and parents from both schools showing up and cheering for their teams. Whether it was on the court or in the stands, the support for Ballard and CALĀ basketball was amazing to see.
