On Nov. 6, Ballard High School’s chess team won a match against Trinity High School. The final scores were 5-0, a significant victory for the chess team. Since the game was for a tournament, the chess team will move on to play against another school soon. In an interview with two chess team members, Sohan Repala and Shankar Devarakonda, information about the chess team as a whole was provided as well as how they felt during the game.

According to Sohan and Shankar, the beginning of the game was sort of stressful, but by the end they were not stressed at all. The team gained excitement from winning, as well as some congratulations, but they did not receive an official award, title, or trophy. Shankar and Sohan even claim that the Trinity students were bragging about their SAT scores before the game started, so they’re very proud that they were able to put the opposing team in their place.

On the topic of the chess team itself, Mr. Maschenik is the team leader. A very good one, according to the team members that were interviewed. They claim he provides snacks, motivation, and guidance both in their lives and during games.
