On January 19, millions of TikTok users woke up to find that they could not access their TikTok accounts due to a US law banning it. Many users were freaking out and complaining about this ban. The Supreme Court ruled that TikTok would be banned in the US unless the Chinese parent company ByteDance sold it to someone in the states. After some questionable trials, asking many random questions to the defendants, including questions about the CEO’s heritage and overall making a fool of themselves, they decided that TikTok was unsafe for Americans to use in order to protect data from the Chinese government.
However, newly elected President Trump said that he would unban TikTok after the ban. However, he ended up extending the ban enactment for 75 days in order to find a US buyer for the app. Who knows, we might end up seeing Elon Musk owning his second social media platform, along with X. Trump said that himself and his board of executives would take this time to “determine the appropriate course of action.” For now, the question of what will happen with TikTok is still a toss-up. However, for now, users can re-access their accounts and continue to make and watch content as much as they would like.
