The theater has been doing plays and musicals for a while now, but this year they’re doing Puffs, a knock off of Harry Potter that includes spin-offs characters. For example, Ron is a mop. Puffs will be performed on two days, October 22nd and 23rd at 6:30, and tickets can be bought at the door.
As I was talking with the theater director, Faith Anderson, she spoke about how much work the cast and tech have done. There are obviously a lot of lines to memorize, but Anderson said it’s a lot more tech heavy this year. Last year, they only had two spotlights, but this year, they invested in more tech. They’re working with new materials and “using new software and equipment, it’s been stressful,” Anderson said.
Aside from the tech, the cast themselves have been stressed as well. Cast members have to go to rehearsals most Wednesdays, and blocking and memorization isn’t always easy. From what I saw, they go over the same scene over and over again until it meets their standards. After all the rehearsals, they still need to go out on stage in front of a lot of people.
There’s still a lot to look forward to though. There’s inside jokes, more character spin offs, a beautiful set, and probably more that I didn’t ask about. The crew and cast are very talented so I’m sure they can handle everything and put on a great performance.
