This Friday, Ballard’s charity club Move Maroon hosted their yearly corn-hole tournament. Move Maroon, once known as Dance Maroon, is a pediatric cancer research charity club that raises money for children with cancer. Their slogan, “we dance because kids can’t wait”, applies to the many events this club does throughout the year. For example, at the end of the year they host a big marathon which goes till midnight and lasts for six hours. During this the people that are participating are standing the entire time for the kids who can’t.
But, this week was all about the corn-hole tournament. The event was a great and easy way to raise money for these kids and the two winners even got to take home prizes which were 20-dollar gift cards to various places. Also, throughout this week Move Maroon had a penny war with four teachers and whomever had the most negative points would be pied at the game. With this “war”, the two teachers with the most competition were Mr. Wingfeld and Mrs. Cummings. Dollars meant negative points and coins were positive. On the finish for last place, Wingfeld had taken the lead by almost 100 dollars, making him the teacher to be pied during half time. A penny war was just what Move Maroon needed to kick off the year, and with all the money from the football game and corn-hole, they raised almost 1000 dollars.
