This school year, Ballard High School is welcoming a new Head Football Coach. His name is Matthew Kuehn, and he is also a teacher here at Ballard. In an interview with Between the Lines, Coach Kuehn remarked that “being the new head coach is fantastic and exciting”, but “it’s a huge responsibility to have”. Having to look after a whole team and make sure everyone healthy is a big responsibility, but it can also be fun. While Coach Kuehn mentioned that he feels less prepared than the football players, he is optimistic because he knows he’s new and still has to figure the job out.
When asked about any changing traditions or routines with the team, Coach Kuehn described how he makes them workout in gear or uniform to be more prepared for the games. Coach Kuehn also offered some tips to get the student body more engaged in actually watching the football games and not just hanging out. He recommends students to hype up the football players and encourage them to play better.
