BSU recently started with an intro meeting on September 3rd with a new council featuring Taylar as president, Chris as vice president, Devan as social media coordinator, Miya as Creative lead, and Sharaun (myself) as the all-rounder. But most importantly, there was a change in sponsor from Mrs.Hinkle-Jones to Mr. Beasley. Many people felt that BSU needed a new sponsor because things weren’t getting done the way they should have. There were no field trips, no money used, no lessons taught, and no promises kept.
With Mr. Beasley, a lot of changes have already been made. In the second Meeting, there was a lesson instead of just people hanging out and talking. And Devan presented a lesson on black joy, with music being the focus. The audience was more engaged, and people were able to actually take something from the lessons as well. It was one of the more successful lessons with a lot of positive feedback from the members.
The future is also bright with council meetings every week between the actual meetings. Mr. Beasley plans to have the council help with a guide that will help future councils know how to run BSU properly. He is also working towards having field trips to the underground railroad.
