Ballard High School offers many diverse clubs, ranging from ethnic or academic clubs all the way to clubs about similar interests, such as K-pop or anime club. There is a club here for everyone to meet new people, socialize, and create new bonds with the peers they share similar ideas with. Extracurricular activities offer a lot for students, whether it helps with college resumes or socialization, clubs are highly encouraged to be apart of every students high school life. Listed below are various different clubs and activities for students to choose if they are experiencing difficulties choosing an after school club.
1. Y-Club: Y-Club is a student government club that focuses on two conferences. The first conference, KYA (Kentucky Youth Assembly), is held in early winter where students across Kentucky meet in a hotel and debate as a mock government of the state of Kentucky. Students are open to a field of politics where they debate on student-made bills based on issues in Kentucky they feel need representation the most. The second conference, KUNA (Kentucky United Nations Assembly), is held in early spring. Similarly to KYA, students debate as a mock United Nations. They are assigned countries to represent as ambassadors and speak on global issues. Y-Club is a area in which students can grow in and represent themselves. Mr. Ransom is the sponsor of Y-Club in room S117.
2. SASA: The South Asian Student Association is a newly built club that welcomes all students with a South Asian background to become joined together. The SASA is beginning to introduce many events such as Bollywood movie nights, bake sales, and a new idea for the cultural showcase. The SASA brings the cultures of all South Asian backgrounds together and allows them to unite as one in a single club by celebrating different festivals and learning about different cultures. If interested, stop by Mr. Ransom’s room in S117.
3. HOSA: Health Occupations Students of America is a health organization for students who are interested in the medical field. HOSA offers volunteering opportunities where students can volunteer year round at health clinics, retirement homes, blood drives, etc. There are also state and national competitions that take place around March and May. They push their members to grow and make new connections while experiencing new talents.
There are many more clubs Ballard offers that can be found on many flyers and ads that are posted around the school. Clubs can help students become more social and facilitate new accomplishments. Students can also create new clubs if they are interested. To do so, email Dr. Nuess for permission and find a reliable sponsor. With more and more clubs arriving at Ballard, a whole new set of diversity is brought to the school for all students and teachers.
