This week, Ballard Field Hockey competed in SHA’s Apple Tournament. All teams went head to head with schools all over JCPS. The Apple Tournament acts as a season kick-off for most field hockey teams and gives each team a perspective on other schools. It also gives insight on how teams can improve to be their best through the rest of the season.
This year, all three teams for Ballard Field Hockey competed. The Freshmen Team went against Manual, Sacred Heart Academy, Christian Academy, and Assumption. They beat Manual 1-0 and CAL 4-0, losing to the other teams. The Junior Varsity team went up against North Oldham, Christian Academy, and Collegiate. JV beat North Oldham 1-0, tied with Collegiate, but lost to Christian Academy. However, they will have many opportunities to redeem themselves later in the season. Varsity was one of the last teams to compete. They went up against Sacred Heart, Assumption, and Christian Academy. They lost to all three, but put up a good fight, never gave up, and held their own.
Every year, Ballard Field Hockey has the honor of awarding one player from each team the title of All Tournament Team player. This year those people were the Freshmen Team’s Catherine Barrick, JV’s Logan Mull, and Varsity’s Clare O’Bryan. Each player showed amazing growth and grit throughout the week.
