This fall at Ballard, we are hosting a blood drive for students to give blood and help out the community. The blood drive is going to be on Wednesday, October 22nd.
Giving blood is a very good way to help people and possibly save lives, things like blood transfusions are crucial for treating a wide range of medical conditions, Donating blood is a generous and altruistic act that demonstrates a person’s willingness to help others in need, if you want to donate blood at the drive, you need to be at least 16 years old, and have written consent from a parent.
Mrs. Howell, the sponsor for this event, says, ¨People should want to give blood because it saves lives! Every two seconds, someone in the US needs blood, but the demand is greater than the supply. The blood goes to people of all ages – accident and burn victims, organ transplant patients, and those battling diseases like cancer and sickle-cell anemia.
In fact, last year our blood drive saved one of our own students! On the day of donation, she was told that her blood pressure was too high and that she should check in with her doctor. In doing so, she discovered she had a potentially fatal problem with her kidneys that was able to be fixed!¨
If you can give blood this year, you absolutely should! Give blood and save lives!!
