On April 4th, Louisville experienced a historic flood; it affected many aspects of Louisville, including Thunder and Ballard High School´s Musical.
Mr.Crocker, an english teacher here at Ballard was asked questions about how the flood affected Ballard, specifically the spring musical.
¨We could not participate in extracurriculars. They canceled all sports and after school activities and in doing so, kept us from being able to rehearse.¨ The people in the musical were supposed to have 5 days for their tech week, but because of the flood, they got 36 hours. He was feeling very anxious when Monday and Tuesday were canceled that week. ¨I trusted the students in the musical, but I think it’s a big ask… to ask anybody, let alone highschoolers who´ve been working on something for 4 months to try to put together what we needed to do in such a short amount of time.¨
He was then asked about how the flood affected the students and their performance. ¨You know, I was so pleased with the performance, and to be really honest, shocked at the heavy lift the students were able to do.¨ He loved the show that they put on, but he did talk about how he is sad that the flood happened and caused them to lose rehearsal time. ¨I loved the show we put on..but it makes me a little sad because it made me think, ´What if they had the time?´ And (I) wonder what it (the show, Shrek) could’ve been.¨
The flood also affected annual things in Louisville too. One of the Shrek performances was supposed to be on the same evening as thunder, many students were worried that that was going to affect the people that were going to see it. But Thunder Over Louisville was cancelled due to the flooding, this being only the second time this has ever been canceled. The people that were looking forward to the firework show weren’t the only people that were disappointed, but also the businesses along the river were too. Because of thunder, Louisville usually gains $56 million for the local economy, but this year, that didn’t happen.
