Midterm exams are very stressful tests. But, are you having trouble studying? Here are some tips to help.
- Go to a library near you. A library gives you a quiet and non-distracting environment around you, it’s perfect if you’re somebody who struggles staying focused on their work.
- Make flash cards. Having flash cards opens the opportunity to constantly go over what you need to remember. You can do this as much as you need to, until the answers you need to know are memorized.
- Teach someone what you’re studying. The best way to get in depth in what you’re studying is by teaching someone about it. It forces you to deeply talk about the topic since in order to teach the topic, you need to know about it.
- Create a routine. A very effective routine is needed. A highly recommended routine is to dedicate a day to studying. The next day, go back and review what you’re studying. On the third day, do the same thing. Then after about 4 days to a week, go back and review your studying again to strengthen your memory.
- Study during the daytime. In the morning, that’s a time when your brain isn’t at full power, it’s not functioning normally since you have no energy. At night, your mind and body are tired again since it has been working throughout the day. During the day, you’ve eaten breakfast and probably lunch too and your mind and body had time to start functioning properly, use that to your advantage.
- Go to a tutor. If you’re not a master in the topic you’re studying, go to someone that is. That someone can either be a friend, your school, or a place. For example, Mathnasium, a place which tutors students in math. You can get these tutoring hours when you’re not in school and have free time which helps you learn more.
- Watch YouTube videos. Most students I know commonly use this method of studying. Watching a YouTube video of someone teaching the topic you’re studying for gives you a visual lesson.
- Go to Ballard’s Library. If you have free time in a class you can ask your teacher for a pass to go into the school’s library so you can get out of the class and into a quiet place to study.
