The Journalism 1 class contributed to Between the Lines by writing obituaries. They were about old trends that were made popular by Gen Z or the early 2000s. The main goal of putting these on the site was to help teach Journalism 1 how to write and publish an article to Ballard Between the Lines digital website. Not all of them got published, but it was still a great learning experience.
Some of the students were interviewed about writing the obituaries. They were asked if they liked writing for the newspaper. One student shared, “I love writing and this is a really fun experience sharing my writing with others,” and another said, “This was a creative way for the newspaper to get shared.” Students were also asked about using their obituaries to promote the newspaper. They said the obituaries were “funny ideas for the newspaper and a way to show what we are reporting on.”
